CodeQuest is a Discord bot that teaches coding through quizzes and coding challenges. This policy explains exactly what data it stores, why, and how to have it removed.
CodeQuest stores only what is needed to track your progress in the game:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| An account id from whichever service you signed in with (Discord, Google or GitHub) | To know whose progress is whose |
| A display name | To show you on the leaderboard. Discord provides a gamertag; for GitHub we generate a neutral handle rather than use your name, and you can change it in settings |
| XP, level, streaks | Your progression in the game |
| Counts of quizzes and challenges completed | Your profile stats |
| Which questions you got right or wrong, with topic, difficulty and timestamp | To show your accuracy by topic in /rank |
| The date you last used the daily quiz and weekly challenge | To enforce one-per-day and one-per-week limits |
| How many commands you have used today | To enforce daily limits |
| The IDs of servers where you have used CodeQuest | So each server's leaderboard shows only its own members |
| A hint reference for your current question | So /hint knows what you are working on |
| Which lessons you have completed | To unlock the next lesson in a course and show your progress |
| CodeType results — words per minute, lines per minute, accuracy, language, mode, and how long the run lasted | To show your typing bests and history on your account page |
You can use this website without a Discord account. If you do, we create a guest account identified by a random number stored in a cookie on your device. It holds the same progress data listed above, but it is not connected to any Discord identity and we have no way to tell who you are.
We set one cookie, which stores your signed session. It is required for the site to remember you between pages and is not used for advertising or tracking across other websites. If you later connect Discord, your guest progress is merged into your Discord account and the guest record is removed.
Code you submit for a coding challenge is sent to Judge0, a third-party sandboxed code execution service, so it can be run safely. Only the code itself and the chosen language are sent. Their handling of that request is governed by their own policies.
CodeQuest is hosted on Railway, where its database is stored.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone. Aggregate, non-identifying totals (such as the number of questions available) may be shown publicly on this website.
You can do both yourself, at any time, from settings:
You can also ask in the support server and it will be done for you. Removing CodeQuest from a server does not automatically delete player data, since players may use it in other servers.
CodeQuest is an educational tool intended for general audiences. Discord requires users to be at least 13 years old, or older in some countries. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone below Discord's minimum age.
If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of CodeQuest after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Questions about this policy or a data deletion request can be sent to the developer through the CodeQuest support server.
